Forex market open time in the UAE: the clock never really stops

The forex market opens at 02:00 GST on Monday morning, when Sydney begins, and closes at 02:00 GST on Saturday, when New York ends. Between those points the market runs continuously, passing from one financial centre to the next. For a UAE-based reader, that means the trading week starts early on Monday and finishes late on Friday night, local time.

The four sessions are not equal in character. Sydney and Tokyo are quieter, London brings the heaviest turnover, and New York adds a second burst of activity. What matters for a trader in Dubai or Abu Dhabi is not the global open, but which window fits your day and your strategy.

All times on this page are Gulf Standard Time, UTC+4. The UAE does not observe daylight saving, so your local clock stays fixed while London and New York shift by an hour twice a year. Check the broker's own session schedule before relying on any fixed table, because their server time may differ from GST.

Session hours converted to Gulf Standard Time

Sydney runs 02:00-11:00 GST, Tokyo 04:00-13:00 GST, London 12:00-21:00 GST, and New York 17:00-02:00 GST. These overlap in places: Tokyo and Sydney share the early morning, London and New York share the evening.

The London session is the one most UAE traders watch. It opens at midday local time and closes at 21:00, which fits neatly around a working day. The New York session starts at 17:00 GST and runs until 02:00, so it suits anyone who prefers to trade after dinner.

The London and New York overlap, from 17:00 to 21:00 GST, is the busiest four hours of the day. Liquidity is deepest and price movement is usually most pronounced. It is also the window most likely to conflict with family or evening commitments, so decide in advance whether it suits you.

Which window to trade from Dubai or Abu Dhabi

There is no single best session. The right window depends on when you can give the screen your full attention, and on whether your approach needs fast movement or slower conditions. A trader with a day job may find the London open at 12:00 GST convenient, while someone working shifts may prefer New York.

Thin sessions are not automatically safer. Sydney and Tokyo hours can see wider spreads and sharper moves on limited volume, particularly around Japanese data releases. Busy sessions are not automatically easier either, because volatility cuts both ways.

A practical approach is to pick one or two windows, note them in your calendar, and ignore the rest. Trading at 03:00 GST simply because New York is active rarely ends well if you are tired. Consistency in when you trade is easier to maintain than consistency in what you trade.

Before you trade a session, check who regulates the broker

Session timing tells you when the market is open. It says nothing about whether the firm you are sending money to is properly supervised. In the UAE, three regimes coexist: the SCA onshore, the DFSA in the DIFC, and the FSRA in the ADGM. A broker's licence says which one applies, and that determines who handles a complaint.

The SCA publishes its licensed companies register at sca.gov.ae. If a firm claims SCA authorisation, that register is where you confirm it. For the DIFC and ADGM regimes, check the relevant regulator's own public register rather than a broker's marketing page.

Funding usually moves by bank transfer, with local bank transfer, card and international wire also common. Before committing, read the broker's funding page for the exact methods, currencies and processing times it supports, and check your own bank app for what your account will accept. If a number is not published, ask the broker in writing.

Planning your week around GST

Because the UAE clock does not move, your session table stays stable all year. What changes is the gap between GST and London or New York, which widens or narrows by an hour when those markets change their clocks. A session that starts at 12:00 GST in winter may effectively shift at the edges in summer.

That makes it worth re-checking your timings twice a year, in late March and late October, when European and American daylight saving changes take effect. A calendar reminder is enough. Your broker's platform will show the correct hours regardless, but your own routine should match them.

Keep the week's shape simple: Monday to Friday, with the market closed over the weekend. Plan entries around the window you have chosen, not around the clock. The market will be open whether or not you are watching it.

What time does the forex market open in the UAE?

The forex week opens at 02:00 GST on Monday, when the Sydney session begins, and runs continuously until 02:00 GST on Saturday, when New York closes. There is no single daily opening bell in GST terms, because each session hands over to the next.

What is the London session time in UAE?

London runs from 12:00 to 21:00 GST. It is the busiest single session of the day and sits comfortably within a normal UAE working day. Note that London observes daylight saving, so the gap between GST and London time changes twice a year.

What is the New York session time in UAE?

New York runs from 17:00 to 02:00 GST. The overlap with London, from 17:00 to 21:00 GST, is typically the most active four hours. Trading into the early hours suits some people and not others, so judge it against your own schedule rather than the volume alone.

Trading forex and CFDs on margin carries a high risk of losing more than you deposit. Most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice.
